Applications
How and Where Can Polyaspartic
Coatings Be Used?
Polyaspartic coating technology
is often used in topcoat formulations that are part of a corrosion
protection coating system because it is based on aliphatic polyisocyanates
and aliphatic diamines (polyaspartic esters), thus non-yellowing
and good overall weathering are typical properties of polyaspartic
topcoats.
Polyaspartic coating formulations are used in a number of industries
all over the world.
Rail
Cars
Polyaspartic ester technology,
a direct-to-metal coating, is widely used in railcar painting because
it provides high performance protection and exceptional color and
gloss retention. Because no primer coat is needed, the efficiencies
of reducing a conventional two-coat system to a one coat direct-to-metal
(DTM) system are very cost effective and result in productivity
benefits.
Bridges
Polyaspartic coatings
are preferred in bridge applications as a result of their ease of
application and fast curing, which lead to cost savings and the
ability to keep pace with the construction schedule. A two-coat
high productivity coating system can achieve the same performance
advantage of a typical three-coat system.
Concrete
Polyaspartic coatings
are ideal for protecting concrete because they can be applied easily,
offer outstanding durability and gloss retention, and can be modified
to fit specific application needs.
Tunnels
Polyaspartic ester-based
aliphatic polyurea coatings are selected for such applications because
the materials can be applied in low-temperatures without problems
and they offer fast-cure productivity advantages to reduce construction
time.
Light
Poles
Polyaspartic coatings
are commonly used in light pole applications because they harden
rapidly and offer exceptional protection from discoloration, as
well as enabling graffiti to be removed easily.
Wood
Floors
Polyaspartic coatings
are preferred in wood flooring topcoat applications because they
can be applied easily, offer outstanding durability and gloss retention,
and can be modified to fit specific application needs.
